Meet Maya McCall

Maya McCall was born in Wilmington and grew up dancing and singing until he left Wilmington to live abroad in Brazil and Colombia when he was 12 years old. While he was abroad, Maya received more dance training while doing musicals and plays which made him versed in styles such as Hiphop, Musical Theatre, and Latin dance. 

Then, Maya went to college at NC State and started his journey with arts education. While at NC State, he helped choreograph 3 productions: Spongebob (Plankton & Dance Captain), Urinetown (Ensemble) and Jekyll & Hyde, and was in Panoramic Dance Company doing Modern and African Dance. He has also worked extensively in the Raleigh community working with organizations such as formerly NCT Conservatory and Justice Theater Project as a Dance Teaching Artist and Assistant Choreographer/Camp Counselor on productions such as Mean Girls, The Descendants, Frozen Jr., Finding Nemo, and Annie, and the Props Designer on Urinetown. 

Because of these opportunities, he decided that his dream job was to teach musical theatre to children, and so he decided to transfer to UNC Greensboro to pursue a BFA in Theatre Education. He ended up graduating in December 2025 with a BA in Drama and a minor in Technical Theatre after discovering a love for technical theatre. He worked at UNCG and in the Greensboro community in creative team positions such as Choreographer, Stage Manager, Director, Light Board Op, Stage Crew and in the Scene Shop on productions such as Rent, Sweeney Todd & ReformED and performed in shows such as School Girls (Ericka) and Sideshow (Roustabout & Attractions Understudy).

Now, he is back permanently to continue his journey teaching youth musical theatre. He has worked with Creative Arts Camp on their camp shows as a Choreographer: Camp Rock and Alice: Through The Looking Glass. Most recently, he has worked with Thalian Community Theatre on Murder on the Orient Express as a Light Board Op and, our very own PTPT Studio as a Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Apprentice, and performer in our Miscast Cabaret. Now, Maya is working as the Choreographer for Wilmington Performing Arts' production of Footloose and as the Choreographer and Stage Manager for Dear Evan Hansen.

Maya believes that everyone deserves to find their love and passion for the performing arts just like he did. Being challenged to learn and do your best is the greatest way to achieve that!
