Here is some important casting information to consider when auditioning.

Summary

Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wage tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

Tone & Style

Conversations are naturalistic, often overlap, and reflect how teens speak when adults aren’t around. Humor is balanced with intense moments of emotion.

Content Warnings

Language
- Frequent strong language and profanity, including sexual slang
Mature Topics
- Frank discussions of sex, menstruation, body image, and relationships

AUDITION REGISTRATION FORM

Audition Requirements

We are auditioning ages 14+. There is one older adult role and 9 teenage female-identifying characters.

We are also looking for trans male-identifying or nonbinary individuals interested in portraying a closeted storyline in this play.

You must bring in a 60-second contemporary monologue that preferably fits within the tone & style of the show, demonstrating naturalistic teenage dialogue.

There will be a movement call at callbacks consisting of soccer drills to assess soccer skill. Soccer experience is NOT REQUIRED, but we would love for you to let us know if you have any.

Character Breakdown

#11: Midfield. Brainy, morbid, budding elitist, thoughtful. Seventeen. #11 is curious about the world and grapples with questions of morality.

#25: Defense. Classic (ex)coach’s daughter. Seventeen. The team’s Captain, works to keep everyone in line, both physically and socially, while also making an attempt to strike out on her own with a new relationship.

#13: Midfield. Stoner, older pot dealer brother, into her wackiness. Sixteen. Self-medicates with marijuana and attempts to understand the complexity of relationships.

#46: Bench. New girl. Awkward, different, just wants to fit in. Sixteen. Struggles awkwardly, and often unsuccessfully, to fit in, but eventually proves that she is a worthy teammate.

#2: Defense. Innocent, unlucky, kind, skinny. Sixteen. More innocent than the other girls, has strong religious beliefs and a secret eating disorder.

#7: Striker. Too cool for school. Sarcastic. Almost seventeen. Loses a bit of her cool factor when she gets injured and has to miss the last game in the season. She watches in dismay as #46 appears to usurp her position as striker.

#14: Midfield. #7’s insecure sidekick. Sixteen. Tries to be as cool as her friend #7, but struggles with the pressure of sex and growing up before she is quite ready.

#8: Defense. Plays dumber than she is. Sixteen. Acts less intelligent than she is so that people will like her.

#00: Goalie. Intense performance anxiety, perfectionist, high achiever. Seventeen. Copes with intense anxiety which causes her to vomit before every game.

Soccer Mom: Soccer Mom shows up at practice after the death of her daughter. This role only appears onstage for a short time, but showcases intense emotion while balancing mania and grief.

PTPT Apprentice Theatre is looking for diverse, female-identifying/transgender/nonbinary, and LGBTQIA+ individuals to be cast for this production.
